OUR WORK

The Food First Initiative program takes a comprehensive approach to food insecurities in Nigeria. Our Food Bank is the first-ever food bank to be established in Nigeria with the intent of resolving the problem from the root.

Our strategies support farmers to produce more food, feed children in need in schools, and support families with staples food critical to the population.

Our activities go beyond feeding children, we also address all other areas affecting children’s academic performance and wellness. This program ensures that the child gets most of the nutrient

BREAKFAST AND LUNCH TO SCHOOL KIDS

We adopt schools in the most vulnerable communities and provide them with prepackaged breakfast and lunch so that they can concentrate at school and when they get home, have the energy to study and do their homework and chores. Parents will worry less and can better support their children’s academic needs.

The Benefit of feeding children breakfast cannot be overemphasized, countless data have shown a positive impact on the child’s life, performance, behavior, zest for living, contribution to the community, and classroom engagement.

SCHOOL FEEDING PROGRAM PILOT PROJECT

Our first pilot project with a select school in a community will kick start by May 2022. We intend to collect useful data from our pilot that will guide us and other donors that intend to implement such a program in Nigeria. The result will be published on our website by the end of the school semester/term.

REDUCING CHILDHOOD POVERTY THROUGH EDUCATIONAL EMPOWERMENT

Childhood poverty goes hand in hand with hunger. It deflates children’s morale and desire for education. Many children go to school ill-equipped without textbooks or proper uniforms. Sometimes they are sent home for the lack thereof and miss out on education. Many children end up hawking on the street to support their parents. The Food Bank Initiative educational empowerment provides uniforms, foot wears, socks, textbooks, notebooks, and learning materials the child needs to succeed. This intervention will encourage enrollment and retention in schools.

CHILDHOOD MALNUTRITION

The first three months of newborn lives are very important, and children require food dense in nutrients for normal growth. The Food Bank Newborn Nutrition Assistance intends to support newborns with nutrient-rich foods and formulas intended to help a child’s critical development. Qualifying families of newborns will receive a box of formula to assist with their child’s development and growth.

OUR DAILY FOOD BOX FOR FAMILIES

Supporting families in need with Our Daily Food Box is an important part of The Food Bank Initiative to end hunger in our communities. Our Food Box consists of staple foods Nigerians consume daily. Each box will contain 5kg of Garri, 5kg of Beans, and 5kg of Rice. When people say they have no food, it means these basic staples are missing at home. The food bank will acquire staple foods and distribute them to community food pantries/collection centers, school kitchens, and others.

NATURAL AND MAN-MADE DISASTER SUPPORT PROGRAM

During disasters such as natural or communal crises as is constantly witnessed in Nigeria, we will send prepackaged food as a short-term intervention and Our Daily Food Boxes to meet their food need while displaced. The Food Bank Initiative will also provide opportunities for donors to help with the money and material needs of victims.
